Illinois Wesleyan
Experiential Learning

A school just as unique as you are

Think Big

Experiential learning is a hallmark of an Illinois Wesleyan education. Students conduct research, create prototypes and start-ups, participate in internships, take part in community service and study abroad in more than 70 countries. At IWU, you'll have opportunities to marry the questions you're passionate about to hands-on projects, faculty-guided research, and travel the world to satisfy your curiosity - to both solidify your understanding of the world and differentiate you to prospective employers or graduate schools.

"IWU's Career Center has provided me with countless opportunities to be successful...In truth, coming to IWU is the absolute best decision I have ever made."

May Term
May Term
This month-long session allows students to focus on a single special-topic course not offered during the regular terms, take a travel-study course or pursue research options, internships, or creative activity. May Term is designed to stretch traditional boundaries between in-class and out-of-class learning.
Eckley Scholars and Artists Programs
Eckley Scholars and Artists Programs
Undergraduate research is a hallmark of Illinois Wesleyan and the Eckley program is just one of many sponsored programs taking place during the school year and summer. As an exclusively undergraduate university our students have greater access to research opportunities, because they do not compete with graduate students.
Action Research Center
Action Research Center
The Action Research Center is a unique experiential-learning center that matches students with a wide array of community, governmental and corporate organizations where students work independently and side-by-side with professionals to conduct research, develop new initiatives, create strategic plans and more.
Study Abroad Tuition Program
Study Abroad Tuition Program
We encourage students to experience study abroad while at Illinois Wesleyan – so we created a tuition policy that allows you to apply your IWU scholarship and need-based assistance toward the cost of studying abroad. This means virtually any student who attends Illinois Wesleyan can afford to study abroad.
